All new arrivals begin as Recruits. The early choices recruits make, as they progress toward various career paths, will define the skills, abilities, weapons, tools, and armor that will be accessible during their term of service.
All troops receive basic training in firearms, light armor, and hand-to-hand techniques. Those possessing Logos sensitivity receive additional training. Recruits learn to use shotguns for standard area-of-effect combat, pistols for dispatching single targets at close range, and rifles for long-range sniping. Logos-receptive troops can also scout vast areas quickly or launch hit-and-run strikes using Sprint, and can hit large targets with amazing force using Lightning.
Hand to Hand Combat
- Increases damage of all hand-to-hand and melee attacks
- Adds knock-back to hand-to-hand and melee attacks
- Advanced training adds stun to hand-to-hand and melee attacks
Firearms
- Reduces pistol reload time
- Improves critical hit rate of rifles
- Adds knock-back to shotgun attacks
- Increases damage inflicted by shotguns, pistols, and rifles
Lightning
- A long-range energy attack that is very powerful and efficient
- Advanced training adds Stun and minor area-of-effect benefits
Sprint
- Useful for scouting, quickly traversing terrain, and for closing to short range for certain attacks
- Costs adrenaline over time to maintain
Motor Assist Body Armor
- Improves movement speed while wearing this armor type
- Advanced training increases movement speed per piece of armor worn
All recruits are able to learn the following skills in addition to their basic skills so that they can keep themselves equipped and ready for battle.

Engineering: Thermodynamics
This skill increases your chances of successfully improving certain enhancements on equipment. Thermodynamics-based enhancements include those affecting Power and Power recharge, armor absorption and armor recharge, and the Electric damage type.

Engineering: Chemistry
This skill allows crafting of various types of hand grenades and ammunition. It also increases your chances of successfully improving certain enhancements on equipment. Chemistry-based enhancements include those dealing with the Fire, Ice, Sonic, and Physical damage types.

Engineering: Genetics
This skill allows crafting of various restorative and healing devices. It also increases your chances of successfully improving certain enhancements on equipment. Genetics-based enhancements include those that affect Body, Mind, Spirit, Health, Adrenaline, Regen, and the Virulent damage type.

Engineering: Photonics
This skill allows crafting of various EMP devices. It also increases your chances of successfully improving certain enhancements on equipment. Photonics-based enhancements include those that affect Stealth and Threat modification, Crit Hits, and the EMP and Photonic damage types.
