GENERAL INFO
Clone Point’s allow you to take a snapshot of your current character and “duplicate” (aka clone) your current character. It allows you to explore different character classes without leveling up a new character from the beginning. It can also give you a form of “Respec” for your current character. It’s tricky, but you can even have a clone of the same first name.
Items that are NOT reset upon cloning are:
- Attributes
- Logos Tablet
- Obtained Locations (waypoints, hospitals, etc.)
- Surname
- Location upon cloning. (aka if you clone in a hostile area that is where your naked clone is created upon logging in, So be careful.)
Items that ARE reset upon cloning are:
- Skills
- Missions
- Friends List (for now at least)
- Clan affiliation
HOW TO OBTAIN CLONE POINTS
There are two current ways to obtain clone points. The first is to level up, because you gain one point at 5, 15, and 30. The second way is to complete ToO’s (Targets of Opportunity missions). For every ToO you complete, you get one clone point. This is not as easy as it sounds though, since you will have to do every assault and defense mission in the zone. I know for a fact that there are ToO’s for Wilderness, Divide, and Plains, Palisades. Also, eventually, according to Cuppa Jo, there will be a vendor where you can purchase a cloning point.
WHAT TO DO BEFORE YOU CLONE
Ok, so now your about to clone your character, but before you do, ask yourself a couple of things. Do I have all the waypoints I am able to get? Do I have all the logos that I know the location of? The more time you spend getting these things before you clone is less time you will spend with the clone doing some of the basics. Since missions are not carried over make sure to finish off any that you do not want to repeat.
Example: Marie is ready to decide on her T3 career , but before she does she is going to clone. She just entered the divide but does not have any of the waypoints or any of the logos. If she clones now she will have to get all the waypoints and logos and so will the clone. So she spends 15 min or so running around collecting all the known waypoints and logos and heck even jumps over to the palisades and does the same there. Now she and her clone are both ready to go.
EFFECTIVELY USING YOUR CLONE POINTS
At level 4.99 you get your first clone point. It has probably taken you around 20-45 min to get to this point. You can not make level 5 until you train and a lot of people take this opportunity to make a clone before deciding on if they are going to be a specialist or solider. Don’t do it! Cloning at this time is just a waste of a point. Log off and take another 20-45 min to build up another character. One can go Solider and the other Specialist.
At level 14.99 you get your second clone point (Plus ToO’s if any). Now here is a great time to make your first clone. Follow “What to Do Before you Clone” above, and make your first clone. Now you can go with both branches of Tier 3, for your specialty.
(IMPORTANT: Make sure to clone BEFORE you talk to the Tier 3 trainer. I made this mistake once…or twice)
At level 29.99 you get another clone point and you should have used one earlier which gives you a total of 2 clone points (Plus ToO’s if any) Here is another good spot to clone your character so that you will have both of the T4 paths available to you.
(IMPORTANT: Make sure to clone BEFORE you talk to the Tier 4 trainer.)
HOW TO REPEC AND KEEP YOUR FIRST NAME
Follow these steps to keep your first name when you clone and you should not have any problems.
In this setup the characters name is Marie Tuckman , she is at level 29.8 and has two clone points. She really wishes she could take back those 3 points she put into Decay, and the 15 points she put into hand to hand. She also wants to make sure she has a clone for the other T4 carrier path, and even though she could just clone twice she wants to keep her first name as Marie. Here is how she is going to do it.
- Clone Marie Tuckman and name it Temp. (don’t worry about making this one look pretty)
- Clone Marie Tuckman again and name it whatever you would like to (I will use Shaon in this Example). This one is going to be the clone you use to make your second T4 character with so give it a good name, and make it look the way you want.
- Logon Marie and dump all your items and money into Her footlocker (including worn armor and items from bar)
- Logoff and Delete Marie Tuckman (YIKES!)
- Logon at Temp Tuckman and get level 30 by finishing off a few bane.
- After you get level 30 you will get a clone point. This time you can log off Temp Tuckman and clone this character.
- Set this character up with the first name of Marie. (Fancy it up a bit)
- Login and repec your character your character who is now named the same.
- Login as Shaon Tuckman and now you can level him up and get your next T4 path. You also have an extra clone point now with this character which might be nice.
